Consumption and Subjective Well-Being

Cepec conducts research on how consumption practices can affect consumers' well-being. This line of research fits within the transformative consumer research tradition. In particular, Cepec examines how different consumption practices (sustainable consumption, luxury consumption can affect an individual's subjective well-being. Various studies show that a materialistic orientation is negatively related to happiness such that consumers who attach much importance to material possessions are less happy. However, spending money on luxury brands can be rewarding for materialistic consumers. In particular, research shows that materialistic consumers experience higher subjective well-being when spending more money on luxury brands.
